Dr. Shiming Wei, associate professor of School of Energy Science and Engineering, Henan Polytechnic University (HPU), China, got his master’s degree in 2001 and PhD degree in 2008, both from Xi’an University of Science and Technology. In 2016~2017, as a visiting scholar, he ever studied in Department of Mining Engineering under the guidance of Dr. Syd. Peng in West Virginia University, U.S.A.
Dr. Shiming Wei worked mainly in rock deformation test by optical fiber sensing technology, and has gotten 2 projects from National Natural Science Foundation, one of having been completed. Dr. Shiming Wei tried to established the optical fiber sensing system in coal mining, and presented fiber strain transfer theory and a couple of testing methods. He invented many kinds of sensors with fiber Bragg grating sensing in order to monitor strain, stress or temperature of rock in coal mining. His current focus is to test coal bump with fiber Bragg grating sensing.
