Tingkan Lu is a professor and doctoral supervisor in School of Energy Science and Engineering. He obtained his PhD from the University of New South Wales, Australia , and has worked as a mining engineer and research scientist ever since in Australia and China .

Over the course of his career, Professor Lu has worked in a wide range of mining and geotechnical engineering in Australia and China , such as roof bolting reinforcement, including traditional roof bolting and self-drilling roof bolt, strata control, coal seam gas drainage and coal seam fracture stimulation. He has extensive experience in field and theoretical researches. Professor Lu’s current focus is on coal seam fracture stimulation. The fracture stimulation is one of the key issues in energy sector, including coal mining, old, natural gas and shell gas industries. Particularly, due to low permeability of coal seam, the coal seam gas drainage presents enormous challenges for mine management in safety and productivity. Apart from these traditional projects, Professor Lu has worked on a project on geo-database development for providing data exchange in coal mine strata control.

Current research interests:

Theoretical and numerical research in coal seam fracture stimulation.
